Inter Atlanta FC Announces Lea Rolfes as Chief Operating Officer

Atlanta, GA (February 23, 2026) - Inter Atlanta FC is pleased to announce Lea Rolfes as the new Chief Operating Officer of Inter Atlanta FC.

Lea joins Inter Atlanta after more than a decade as Executive Director of Girls on the Run Georgia, where she provided leadership during a period of sustained growth for the organization. She brings extensive experience in nonprofit leadership, volunteer development, fundraising, and community engagement. In her new role, Lea will oversee the club’s operational and administrative functions while supporting the continued growth of Inter Atlanta’s programs and community initiatives.

Rolfes joins a leadership team that includes President & CEO Andy Skorupski and Chief Soccer Officer John Downey. Together, the group will guide the club’s continued development across its soccer programs, facilities, and community initiatives.

The leadership addition comes during a period of strong progress for the club. Recent upgrades at Arizona Ave Soccer Fields include expanded food options, new IAFC merchandise, and ADA compliant sidewalks. The Gratis Play program served more than 80 kids this fall, and the club’s scholarship program has supported more than 75 players through nearly $200,000 in aid. Futsal participation also grew this winter with 471 players, and a $300,000 Georgia 100 Foundation grant funded improvements at Toomer Elementary Fields.

Facility development remains a priority. Glenwood Soccer Park is scheduled to open in Fall 2026 with three lighted full-size fields, and partnerships with Atlanta Public Schools aim to improve existing fields and expand access across the city. The club has also spent the past year gathering feedback from families to refine its mission, vision, and values. Input from more than 400 families will help shape strategic priorities moving forward, including the upcoming transition to grade-level age group structures and community engagement opportunities tied to the 2026 World Cup in Atlanta.

Atlanta, GA (February 11, 2026) - Inter Atlanta FC is pleased to announce Andy Skorupski as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of Inter Atlanta FC.

Skorupski joins Inter Atlanta after nine years with Atlanta United, where he held leadership roles in finance and facilities management. He brings extensive experience in organizational operations, long-term planning, and soccer administration. In his new role, he will oversee the club’s business operations and help guide Inter Atlanta through its next phase of growth.

About National Girls and Women in Sports Day

National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) is an annual celebration of the role girls and women play in sports, while also recognizing the ongoing need for equity and access at all levels. First recognized in 1987, NGWSD highlights the positive impact sports can have on confidence, leadership, and personal development.

Sports provide girls and women with opportunities to learn, compete, and grow in supportive environments. Participation helps build skills such as teamwork, discipline, and accountability that carry over beyond athletics.

Inter Atlanta FC Partners with Club OODAZU to Launch Indoor Soccer Programs in Decatur

Atlanta, GA (November 5, 2025)- Inter Atlanta FC is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Club OODAZU to bring exciting indoor soccer opportunities to the Decatur community. Beginning Spring 2026, Inter Atlanta will launch its first-ever Indoor Recreational Program for players ages 5U–8U at Club OODAZU’s new state-of-the-art indoor facility.

This partnership provides Inter Atlanta families and the surrounding area with consistent, high-quality indoor soccer and futsal programming — allowing players to train and compete year-round, regardless of weather conditions.

"We are thrilled that Inter Atlanta FC has the opportunity to partner with Club OODAZU Decatur!" said Amy Feigl, Director of Camps and Clinics at Inter Atlanta FC. "This new collaboration will finally bring consistent and quality Indoor Soccer options and training to our Inter Atlanta families and the surrounding area. In addition to the spring indoor rec program, Inter Atlanta’s Indoor Futsal Program will begin this winter, offering boys and girls ages 4U–11U a fast-paced, skill-focused environment. Futsal is a smaller-sided version of soccer played on a hard court with a low-bounce ball, emphasizing close control, quick decision-making, and technical precision.

Club OODAZU’s new facility features numerous futsal courts, parent viewing areas, a gym, and a café, creating an inviting environment for players and families alike.

US Soccer Launches Green Badge Initiative to Support Young Referees

Atlanta, GA (August 6, 2025) – As part of a nationwide effort to build a more respectful and supportive environment for referees, U.S. Soccer has introduced a new Green Referee Badge for the 2025–2026 season. This badge will be worn by all certified referees under the age of 18 and is a core element of U.S. Soccer’s ongoing #RespectTheCall campaign.

The initiative aims to reduce verbal abuse and sideline pressure, especially on young and developing referees, by making it clear to players, coaches, and spectators when an official is a minor. The green badge serves as a visual cue to offer patience, understanding, and encouragement.

“I’m very excited for this initiative from U.S. Soccer,” said Frank Williamson, Referee Assignor at Inter Atlanta FC. “Many of the referees in our program are minors and current IAFC players. If we want better referees at the highest levels of youth and adult soccer, we need to retain young referees at the grassroots level by giving them a safe environment to learn and grow.

This initiative reinforces U.S. Soccer’s commitment to referee development and retention by placing a strong emphasis on education, respect, and mentorship. Referees play a vital role in the game, and creating an environment where young officials feel safe and valued is key to growing the sport at every level.

What You Need to Know About the Green Badge:

Mandatory for referees under 18: The green badge is now the standard for all referees under 18 at the time of certification or recertification.
Worn all season long: Even if a referee turns 18 mid-season, they will continue to wear the green badge for the remainder of the year.
Greater accountability: Spectators, coaches, and players are expected to demonstrate respectful sideline behavior—especially toward referees wearing the green badge.

ASPIRE, a Girls Academy (GA) league is designed to provide a structured, merit-based pathway for ambitious clubs and players. ASPIRE strengthens the player development model by creating a competitive environment where clubs can develop, compete, and progress within the GA ecosystem while upholding the highest standards of excellence and long-term sustainability.

“We’re very excited to be accepted into another high-quality, nationally recognized league for our girls’ program,” said Inter Atlanta FC Director of Coaching John Downey. “Our female athletes have deserved the opportunity to compete at the highest levels for many years.”

Inter Atlanta FC will also continue our participation in the Development Player League (DPL) with our U13-U19 Blue level teams. Field Traffic & Safety Protocols

Atlanta, GA (October 2, 2024) - Inter Atlanta FC's Safety Committee Introduces New Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Protocols

Inter Atlanta FC (IAFC) is dedicated to ensuring the safety of all players, families, and spectators at our fields. To support this commitment, the club convened a Safety Committee last spring, composed of parent volunteers, to address key safety concerns. Over the summer, the committee focused on improving field safety, particularly during peak traffic hours at AZ and other practice fields.

The Safety Committee has been working diligently to identify challenges and develop solutions to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety. Our primary goal is to protect players and families arriving and leaving the fields. We kindly ask that all members of our community follow the updated safety protocols to ensure a smooth and safe experience for everyone.

Cars at all fields

Drive slowly and watch for pedestrians in areas around the fields.
Only stop and drop players at designated areas; randomly stopping/dropping players along active roadways (including the driveway) is dangerous and disruptive to traffic flow in and out of the parking lot or the street.
Encourage carpools; coordinate with other players in your timeslot not just on your team when possible

Cars at AZ

Do not stop/drop players in the active driveway, proceed through the parking lot and drop at designated points. Cars must proceed all the way through the lot, no three-points turns.
Consider using the PATH at Clifton Street or the parking lot at Toomer Elementary to park and walk to the fields; IAFC is exploring the feasibility of installing a gate connecting the parking lot to the PATH.

Pedestrians at all fields

Walk responsibly and watch for car traffic.
Cross at designated areas; we are developing a system for this.
Parents should NOT drop young players on the opposite side of the street from any fields so they are crossing unattended; please use the parking lot or drop players on the side of the street (closest to the field).
Do not walk in active driveways.

Pedestrians at AZ

IAFC will be opening a *south gate along Arizona Ave, closer to the clubhouse/field 1 for players/spectators.
Do not walk in the driveway; use the gate entrances into the fields. There will be signs in place to help direct pedestrians to the gate entrances: north gate (near field 3) or *south gate (near field 1) of the complex.
* please note: There are a couple stairs up to the south gate, and a small incline up to field level. If you need on-grade access, please use the north gate, near field 3 OR the parking lot access point.
Consider using the PATH at Clifton Street or the parking lot at Toomer Elementary to park and walk to the fields; IAFC is exploring the feasibility of installing a gate to the PATH and there will be updates on this soon

Safety Improvements at Coan Field

Atlanta, GA (September 4, 2024) - Inter Atlanta FC has taken several steps to improve the safety of Coan Fields (the fields adjacent to Coan Middle School) for players and spectators.

These improvements include:

Over the summer, treating the Coan Fields' dirt and hydroseeding with Bermuda grass. This effort should provide an improved playing surface throughout the entire season.

During the 2023/24 season, installing new lights at Coan Fields. The club constantly maintains the lights to ensure that the lights are working properly. Any additional lights, such as street lights or Coan Middle School lights, are maintained by GA Power, and any time these lights are out, the club reports these to GA Power, which quickly dispatches crews out to repair the lights.

Contracting with three off-duty Atlanta Police Officers to monitor the Coan Fields during practices. One officer remains in the front of the building at all times assisting with drop off and pick up traffic as well as monitoring the front of the building/fields. The second officer remains in the back parking lot and assists with carpool traffic in the back as well as monitoring the back of the building/fields. The third officer remains on the fields and patrols the fence line and perimeter of the Coan Fields.

Training coaches and staff regarding player safety and providing instruction regarding how to respond to various situations presenting a danger to players.

Beth Barbiers announced as Recreation Director

Atlanta, GA (July 10, 2024) - Inter Atlanta FC is thrilled to announce the appointment of Beth Barbiers as the new Recreation Director.

Barbiers, an accomplished athlete, has been a member of the U.S. Deaf Women’s National Team since 2017. She is a two-time gold medalist and recently returned from Malaysia, where the team secured their third World Cup Championship. Her extensive experience and passion for soccer make her an invaluable addition to the Inter Atlanta FC family.

"For many, the rec program is where their soccer journey begins, so one of my main goals is to encourage the development of a love for the game by fostering a nurturing, inclusive, and fun environment," said Barbiers. "I look forward to growing the beautiful game with the Inter family."

In her role as Recreation Director, Barbiers will oversee player registration, team creation, field preparation for weekend games, and communication with families and volunteer coaches. The recreation program serves as an entry point into organized soccer for many players, while also nurturing a lasting love for the game among those who continue playing into their teen years.

"Beth is jovial and kind-hearted. She will bring happiness to all players and families through her presence, communication, and organization," said Executive Director Kevin Kinley. Saxon Venair announced as U10-U12 Academy Director

Atlanta, GA (May 13, 2024) - Inter Atlanta FC is excited to announce Saxon Venair as our U10-U12 Academy Director.

Venair, a native of Manchester, England has held the position of Academy Director at Concorde Fire for a decade, while also coaching teams within the organization. Saxon is renowned for his ability to identify and develop players, with focus on enhancing their technical prowess within the game.

"I’m buzzing to get to know the kids and parents and be a part of the community as soon as possible." said Venair. "I hope to bring some new ideas to a program that has endless potential."

Inter Atlanta FC and Triumph Youth Soccer Association Form Partnership

Atlanta, GA (May 9, 2024) - Inter Atlanta FC (IAFC) and Triumph Youth Soccer Association (TYSA) have announced a new partnership to enhance opportunities for players.

The partnership will create a pathway for Triumph’s boys youth players into Inter Atlanta’s U13-U19 leagues. Benefits to the pathway include movement of players within seasons and the ability for Triumph players to go on “trial” before tryouts begin.

“We develop our players to play in the highest level leagues and like us, Inter Atlanta has shown that they are committed to preparing players for college or professional programs. This alliance will allow us to provide a pathway for our players talented enough to play in MLS Next.” said Gareth O’Sullivan, Executive Director of Triumph.

Inter Atlanta FC, similar to Triumph, offers competitive play in the SCCL league. Two regional travel leagues are also offered at Inter Atlanta with the National Academy League (NAL) and MLS Next. Teams in the NAL Southeast conference are located in the Atlanta area, Birmingham, Charlotte and Raleigh. MLS Next is the premier league in the US, competing against MLS academy teams as well as teams in Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, Hattiesburg, Charlotte and Raleigh.

“Partnering with Triumph expands opportunities for players and creates stronger teams in our footprint to compete on the regional and national stage. Both clubs have philosophies of developing players and we’re excited to bring these synergies together”, said Kevin Kinley, Executive Director of Inter Atlanta FC.

Inter Atlanta Flexes With MLS Next Expansion

ATLANTA, GA (April 17, 2024) – Inter Atlanta FC is excited to announce that we have been awarded expansion in MLS Next with the addition of the U15 age group.

In addition to their U13 and U14 age groups, we will have another team competing in the most competitive youth soccer league in the country. MLS Next, started in 2020, is anchored by MLS Academy teams with other non-MLS academy clubs invited based on performance on and off the field. Since the league’s inaugural year, Inter Atlanta FC has competed in the U13-U14 age groups. With continued success of developing players and teams, our 2010 B ADP team currently sits in second place above Atlanta United and Charlotte FC, while our 2011 B ADP team occupies fourth place in the elite 12 team league.

“Everyone at our club has worked extremely hard, raising standards for all of our programs”, said Executive Director Kevin Kinley. “Developing players and preparing them for the highest level has been rewarding for Inter Atlanta. MLS Next has technical standards that our players and staff have exceeded.”

MLS Next expansion, which improves the level of play for our most competitive teams, along with new programs at IAFC offering free or low cost community-based soccer opportunities, aligns with our mission to provide quality soccer for players at every level.

Inter Atlanta is poised to gain more MLS Next age groups for the 25-26 season. The current teams will travel to Nashville, TN this June to compete in the MLS Next Cup. Information on tryouts for MLS Next, DPL, NAL and Academy for next season can be found on our website.

Yohanse Wyles Announced as Club Program Coordinator

Atlanta, GA (April 10, 2024) - Inter Atlanta FC proudly announces the appointment of Yohanse Wyles as the Club Program Coordinator.

Wyles, a native of Georgetown, Guyana, brings a wealth of coaching experience and a deep-rooted passion for soccer to his new role. Having spent most of his life in the metro-Atlanta area, Yohanse has established himself as a dedicated coach with a passion for talent development.

Wyles has previously coached in both the Boys and Girls Academy programs at Inter Atlanta before transitioning to the Select program. Notable among his achievements is leading the 08B Spring 2023 team to victory in the SCCL league and supporting three promotion campaigns, including consecutive promotions with the 08B Black team from P2 to P1 to SCCL Champions League.

"I'm thrilled to be working with the Club program," said Wyles. "I look forward to helping develop future IAFC Academy and Select talent and hope to one day see a few of them make their way onto our top teams!"

Wyles holds a UEFA C License through the Scottish FA and a USSF C License. He is set to improve his coaching credentials by pursuing his UEFA B License when traveling to Wales this summer, followed by his USSF B License upon his return to Georgia.

“The Club teams in our Academy Program are very important to us,” said John Downey, Director of Coaching of Inter Atlanta FC. “ We have been searching for someone to aid in the development of these players and coaches. Yohanse Wyles has shown significant dedication to his own development as well as dedication to Inter Atlanta, and is a great fit for this role at our club.”
