2026/27 Tryout FAQ's
How important are tryouts?
Tryouts are a part of the selection process, but not the only factor.
Returning Inter Atlanta FC players are evaluated throughout the season, with tryouts helping provide additional comparison, especially as new players are introduced.
For new players, evaluations are based primarily on what is seen during tryouts. Our staff works together to place each player in the most appropriate environment.
Should my player attend both days of tryouts?
Yes. We strongly encourage players to attend all scheduled sessions for their age group. The more we see each player, the more complete the evaluation.
If my athlete is missing tryouts, do I still need to register?
Yes. All players must register for tryouts, even if they are unable to attend. Please notify the club in advance so we are aware of the absence.
Which tryout should my son attend?
Players should attend the tryout for the age group that appears during registration.
U13–U19 boys will be evaluated for all levels, including MLS NEXT Homegrown, within their age group (based on school year) sessions.
How do Goalkeeper Tryouts work?
Players will be evaluated as goalkeepers during their tryout sessions beginning at the U12 age group. Goalkeeper coaches and evaluators will be on-site at each tryout location to assess players.
Players may express interest in playing goalkeeper prior to U12; however, formal goalkeeper-specific evaluation begins at the U12 age group.
Why are some tryouts on grass and some tryouts on turf?
Field availability and tryout logistics require us to use both grass and turf fields. Due to scheduling constraints and the large number of players in each age group, we organize tryouts in a way that maximizes available field space while ensuring all players have the opportunity to be properly evaluated.
Does the club already know where each child will be placed?
No. With the number of players attending tryouts, it is not possible to determine placements in advance.
While returning players are evaluated throughout the season and placed on internal depth charts based on their development, tryouts often shift evaluations as new players perform well and others move between roster considerations.
This year is especially complex due to age group adjustments. While the process is not exact, the club is committed to making the best decisions possible for each player’s development.
Rosters are also fluid and may be adjusted during the season if necessary.
Is there a separate tryout for MLS NEXT teams?
No. All players attend the same tryout sessions for their age group.
Players will be evaluated for all levels, including MLS NEXT Homegrown, MLS Next Academy, NAL, and SCCL, during those sessions.
I registered my son for MLS NEXT tryouts but received a cancellation notice. Can he still try out?
Yes. All players will now be evaluated through the standard tryout process.
We are no longer holding separate MLS NEXT tryouts. Players will be evaluated for all levels, including MLS NEXT, during their age group sessions.
My son was born in September 2012 but wants to be considered for U15 MLS NEXT Homegrown. What should I register for?
Please register your player in the age group that appears in the system.
Players will still be evaluated for MLS NEXT Homegrown during their age group tryouts, regardless of the registration label.
If my child did not play MLS NEXT last year, can they still be considered for MLS NEXT this year?
Yes. All players are eligible to be evaluated for MLS NEXT, regardless of their previous team.
Players will be evaluated for all levels, including MLS NEXT, during their age group tryout sessions.
If my son is ONLY trying out for MLS Next Homegrown but was born after August 1 (younger age group), what should we do?
If a player is only interested in an MLS Next Homegrown roster spot and would not accept an offer at any other level, please email John Downey (jdowney@interatlantafc.com) so the player’s registration can be manually moved into the appropriate older age group.
For example, a player born in September 2011 would normally register as a U15 in Playmetrics. If that player is only trying out for a U16 MLS Next Homegrown roster spot, Inter Atlanta will move their tryout registration to the U16 group so they attend the correct tryout session.
Please note: if the player is not offered for the MLS Next Homegrown roster, they will not be offered a roster spot on another Inter Atlanta team at that time.
Can my son play for his school if he is playing MLS Next Homegrown?
No. Players who accept a roster spot on an MLS Next Homegrown team are not eligible to participate in school soccer. This is an MLS Next rule and not an Inter Atlanta policy.
Can my son play for his school if he plays for an MLS Next Academy, NAL, or SCCL team?
Yes! Players on MLS Next Academy, NAL, and SCCL teams are eligible to participate in school soccer.
Can my daughter play for her school?
Yes. There are no restrictions in any of the leagues in which our female players participate.
Is parking available for tryouts at Georgia Tech’s Stamps Field?
Yes. Visitor parking is available at the Tech Parkway & CRC parking deck. The rate is $2 per hour (up to a 4-hour maximum) or a $5 flat fee.
Are payment plans and financial aid available?
Yes. We offer a variety of payment plan options, as well as need-based financial aid for qualifying families.
Where can I find information on Financial Aid?
Financial aid information is available on our website. Please visit the Financial Aid section for details and application instructions.
What will it cost for my player to participate?
We are currently finalizing registration fees for each program and level offered. Once they are confirmed, they will be shared prior to the start of tryouts and made available to all families.
When will we find out if my athlete(s) made a team?
All official offers will be sent through Playmetrics on Sunday evening (around 8:00 PM) of the week your age group completes tryouts. Please ensure you have access to email and the Playmetrics portal during this time.
Each offer will remain active for 72 hours, and families will need to accept or decline directly through the Playmetrics platform.
Please note that many players will not receive an offer and may be placed on a waiting list. While the club would like to place every player, roster space is limited. We are happy to discuss alternative playing opportunities for players who are not selected.
Once rosters are finalized, program directors and coaches will follow up with additional information as we prepare for the Fall 2026 season.

Our Club uses PlayMetrics as an all-in-one Club Operating, Registration,
Payment, Communication and Scheduling system.
If you are new to the club, you must create an account to register for tryouts.
